Forest Park Nature Center

Directions Forest Park Nature Center is located in Peoria Heights at the foot of Forest Park Drive. Directions are available.

Description An Illinois State Nature Preserve, Forest Park is a series of oak-hickory bluffs with several Illinois River overlooks. It has a network of valley and ridgetop hiking trails as well as a Nature Center with educational displays, restrooms, and a gift shop featuring nature books, bird feeders, and more.

Suggested Route/Stops Hike any of the trails for good looks at forest birds, including numerous species of warblers and vireos during migration. The spring wildflower show is also spectacular. Take the Pimiteoui trail across Forest Park Drive from the nature center to visit a large restored hill prairie area.
Commonly Seen Birds Spring/Fall -- Warblers, vireos, tanagers, and other migrants.

Summer -- Nesting hawks. Worm-eating Warbler, Kentucky Warbler, Ovenbird, American Redstart, Louisiana Waterthrush

Winter -- An extensive array of bird feeders makes it possible to view numerous species from the warm confines of the Nature Center.
